Method for improving adhesion of water-based ink to halogen-containing resin article |
abstract |
(57) [Abstract] (with correction) [PROBLEMS] To improve the adhesion of a water-based ink to a halogen-containing resin article. SOLUTION: A soft and semi-rigid vinyl chloride resin composition containing a combination of a latent mercaptan and a zinc salt of polyethylene oxide (zinc ionomer) as a heat stabilizer is substantially free of the typical unpleasant odor associated with mercaptans, Protected during processing by the decomposition products of latent mercaptans and zinc ionomers. The oxidized polyethylene splits from the ionomer and acts as an adhesion promoter for aqueous inks and paints, and the residual zinc carboxylate functions as a co-stabilizer with the latent mercaptan in the composition. Examples of latent mercaptans include 2-S- (Tetrahydropyranyl) thioalkanol, its carboxylic acid ester, 2-S- (tetrahydropyranyl)- Thiocarboxylic acids, their esters, and their respective furanyl congeners. |
