abstract (57) [Problem] To provide an industrial process for producing 4-formylimidazoles which is useful as a pharmaceutical intermediate. SOLUTION: Under basic conditions, 4-hydroxymethylimidazoles or their inorganic or organic acid salts are dissolved in an organic solvent or an aqueous solvent in 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine N-. React with a co-oxidant in the presence of oxyls. [Effect] 4-formylimidazole can be obtained in high yield.
