| abstract | (57) [Problem] To prevent adverse effects of interface reflection in a filter substrate for a liquid crystal display device in which a cholesteric liquid crystal filter and a λ / 4 retardation plate are arranged on the incident side thereof. SOLUTION: A phase difference layer 3 for converting incident linearly polarized light into circularly polarized light and a cholesteric liquid crystal filter 4 having a function of selectively reflecting the circularly polarized light converted by the phase difference layer 3 are sequentially arranged on a transparent substrate 1. A liquid crystal having a function of transmitting a part of light within a wavelength band selectively reflected by the cholesteric liquid crystal filter 4, and having a difference in average refractive index between the retardation layer 3 and the cholesteric liquid crystal filter 4 of 0.05 or less.
