abstract (57) Abstract: A surface emitting organic laser device capable of emitting a phase-locked laser from a two-dimensional array of micron-sized organic laser pixels is provided. A vertical cavity organic laser array device (100) defines a substrate (110), pixels (200) and pixel spacing (210), and a patterned reflectance modulator (150) disposed on the substrate. A bottom dielectric stack 120 disposed on the patterned reflectance modulator and reflecting light beyond a predetermined range of wavelengths An organic active region 130 disposed on the bottom dielectric stack for laser emission, and spaced from the bottom dielectric layer so as to define an array of spaced laser pixels; A top dielectric stack 140 that reflects light over a predetermined range of wavelengths such that the pixels have a higher reflectivity than the inter-pixel area and the array emits coherent phase-locked laser light.
