Provide a bone strength and mineralization regulatory ("BSMR") protein that can exist in multiple forms and affect bone density. Provided is a polymorphic gene sequence of the protein, which is useful for diagnosing a predisposition to osteoporosis. Also provided are other detection tools, compositions, and methods of using them to predict, evaluate, and modify the state of bone strength and mineralization. The present invention provides new natural and synthetic medicaments that affect the BSMR regulatory pathway and improve bone condition. It also provides tools for finding new medicaments that act by binding to BSMR and activate and / or inactivate the biological functions of the proteins involved in osteoporosis and angiogenesis. |
