abstract |
The present invention provides methods for identifying polynucleotide and polypeptide sequences that may be associated with commercially or aesthetically important traits in cultivar (domesticated) plants or animals. The method uses a comparison of homologous genes from the domesticated organism and its ancestors to identify evolutionary significant changes and evolutionary neutral changes. The sequences thus identified can also serve to enhance commercially or aesthetically desirable traits in cultivated organisms or their ancestors. |
