abstract An object of the present invention is to improve frame identification in a conventional cardiac cycle and obtain periodic information from ultrasound data without using ECG input. A sequence of data frames representing a two-dimensional or three-dimensional area is acquired, the data is converted by projection, and period timing information is calculated based on the converted data. The transformation projects in one and two dimensions and identifies the maximum variance. Then, data representing a location corresponding to the maximum variance is used as an index of cycle timing. Periodic timing information is obtained by calculation from data representing a location.
