Describes the use of organosilyl esters as alkaline hydrolysis or erosion propellants for paint-based binder systems. Such propellants are used in paint formulations where one or more of the paint components are required to undergo hydrolysis upon use. The organosilyl ester of the present invention also forms a film alone. The organosilyl ester can be an ester of carboxylic acid, sulfonic acid or phosphoric acid. The binder system of the present invention can be used in paint compositions such as self-cleaning antifouling paints. |
