abstract Provided is a sliding member that can improve engine durability and fuel consumption by suppressing wear of a sliding contact surface and reducing sliding resistance while suppressing consumption of lubricating oil. In a sliding member (cylinder liner 2) that is in sliding contact with a mating member via lubricating oil, a part of the sliding contact surface has a hard surface portion 12 formed of a surface layer portion of a rapidly solidified structure 11 in a scattered manner. The oil reservoir 10 formed in the mixed portion 10 is formed on the surface. It is preferable that a plurality of the mixed portions 10 are provided independently of each other. [Selection] Figure 2
