Various embodiments disclosed herein relate to an optical element, the optical element having a first state and a second state, and comprising at least a partial coating bonded to at least a portion of a substrate. The at least partial coating switches from the first state to the second state in response to at least actinic radiation, returns to the original first state in response to thermal energy, and the first state and the second state In at least one of the states, at least the transmitted radiation is adapted to be linearly polarized. Other embodiments are bonded to at least a portion of the substrate and at least one type of at least partially aligned having an average absorbance ratio greater than 2.3 in the activated state as measured by the cell method. The present invention relates to an optical element including a photochromic dichroic compound. Still another embodiment relates to a security device, a liquid crystal cell, and a manufacturing method thereof. |
