The present invention relates to a bar-like solid synthetic soap that leaves a residual deposit that provides protection against ultraviolet light on a substrate, (a) a non-emulsifying surfactant with an HLB greater than 15, (b) greater than 10% by weight About 25% red petrolatum, and (c) at least one surface-treated metal oxide sunscreen. Optionally, the compositions of the present invention can include (d) at least one wetting agent with a log P value greater than about 4.0 and (e) an organic sunscreen with a log P value greater than about 4.0.
