abstract A method and apparatus for manufacturing a quartz glass ingot capable of forming a quartz glass material into various sizes and having excellent yield and quality are provided. A heated quartz glass material is pressed into a forming die while being rotated. The quartz glass material 1 that has been press-fitted is stepped into a quartz glass ingot 5 having a required shape and size by adjusting the feed-out speed of the material-side chuck 6-1 and the drawing speed of the ingot-side chuck 6-2.
