There is provided a control method capable of expanding a VDE operating range for an engine that uses alcohol-mixed fuel and is capable of stopping at least one cylinder. A control method of an engine having at least one cylinder capable of being deactivated and a fuel system and operating on an alcohol-containing fuel includes a step of adjusting a range of operating parameters at which at least one cylinder is deactivated.
