The present invention relates to improved microorganisms and methods for the production of methionine and other sulfur-containing fine chemicals using the metI gene from Bacillus subtilis or genes related to metI. In some embodiments of the invention, the metI gene or another gene is incorporated in a manner that allows for the co-production of a carotenoid compound with a water soluble compound, such as methionine or other amino acid. |
