titleOfInvention | Catalyst and method for converting natural gas to higher carbon compounds |
abstract | Low molecular weight hydrocarbons such as methane, promotes oxidative reforming to other hydrocarbons having 2 or more carbon atoms ( "C 2 compound"), the catalyst compositions and processes. A composition having a formula comprising metallic tungsten, manganese and oxygen efficiently catalyzes the oxidative reforming of methane with high conversion and selectivity. By controlling the feed gas stream and the temperature of the catalyst bed, the exothermic OCM reaction is controlled to avoid runaway or carbonization. For oxidative reforming reactions, single reactor or multi-reactor systems can be utilized. By using two reactors in series, the catalyst embodiment produces good yields of C 2 compounds with or without a distributed oxygen supply and with or without intermediate cooling of the effluent. Generated. The desired final product is removed from the reactor effluent, followed by recycling of the residual effluent, increasing the conversion to the desired final product and increasing its final yield. |
