abstract | Provided is a method for easily producing a titanium oxide compound that is excellent in sterilization rate and harmful gas decomposition rate when used as a photocatalyst under irradiation with visible light. A method for producing a titanium oxide compound containing an iron oxide and a sulfur atom or a nitrogen atom, wherein a raw material titanium oxide is produced by reacting a titanium salt with an alkali compound or hydrolyzing the titanium salt. Then, the raw material titanium oxide, an iron compound, a sulfur compound or a nitrogen compound are mixed and baked to obtain a titanium oxide compound containing an iron oxide and a sulfur atom or a nitrogen atom.
