Device for thrombectomy and removal of soft debris |
abstract |
An apparatus is provided that features at least a suction pump driven by a motor that is suitable for removing material from a living body. Preferably, the suction pump and any optional infusion pump feature a helical pumping mechanism and operate at a high speed rotation, thereby ensuring proper pumping performance and flexibility. The spiral pumping mechanism may be a spirally wound wire around the central core tube. The helical coil wire may rotate to provide a pumping action with or independent of the core tube. In addition, a narrow cross-sectional profile is maintained, ensuring that the device can reach more tortuous areas of the vasculature. In one embodiment, the system comprises a wire guided monorail catheter and the working head is mounted on the flexible portion of the catheter and can be laterally displaced from the guidewire to facilitate thrombus removal. The working head may be moved away from the guidewire so that it is very close to the occlusive material to more effectively remove the occlusive material from the blood vessel. |
