Process for continuous production of polyetherimide foam materials and articles containing these foam materials. This continuous process is an extrusion foaming process for continuously producing extruded foams having a substantially uniform cell size with a wide range of cell densities using selected foaming agents, equipment design and processing conditions. . In certain embodiments, subsequent heating is performed to remove residual components, such as blowing or nucleating agents, from the foam. Due to the wide range of densities and properties inherent in polyetherimide articles, the resulting foamed material is suitable for a fairly wide range of applications. This continuous process avoids the use of Freon and / or other agents that may be harmful to the environment and provides a more cost effective product. |
