An article is disclosed that includes a network-like pattern of conductive wiring formed of at least partially bonded nanoparticles. Here, the conductive wiring defines an irregularly shaped cell that is substantially transparent to light and includes a transparent filler material. In one embodiment, the filler material is electrically conductive, for example a metal oxide or a conductive polymer. In another embodiment, the filler material is an adhesive that can be used to transfer the network from one substrate to another. A method for manufacturing the article is also disclosed. This coats the substrate with an emulsion containing nanoparticles in the solvent phase and filler material in the aqueous phase. When the emulsion is dried, the nanoparticles self-assemble to form wiring and the filler material is deposited in the cell. An electroluminescent device is also disclosed. Here this is the article of the invention forms the transparent electrode of the device. [Selection] Figure 1 |
