PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst containing iron oxide that functions as a catalytically active site and exhibiting a function even with LED illumination light that does not contain ultraviolet rays, and a simple manufacturing method capable of industrial production thereof. SOLUTION: A photocatalyst comprising a composite in which particles of iron oxide (A) are fixed to a silica nanostructure (B), wherein the silica nanostructure (B) has a thickness or thickness of 10 to 100 nm. The silica nanofiber or silica nanoribbon having an aspect ratio of 2 or more is assembled as a basic unit in the range of 1 μm to 20 μm, and the content of iron oxide (A) in the composite is 10 to 80 mass%.
