abstract | An organic electroluminescence element and a lighting device having a low driving voltage and high element transmittance are provided. An organic electroluminescence device has a substantially transparent cathode electrode and a light emitting layer, and the cathode electrode is made of an alkali metal and silver from the side close to the light emitting layer. An electrode layer 81 comprising an alloy or an alloy of an alkaline earth metal and silver, and a metal protective layer 82; and the metal protective layer 82 is used for forming an oxide. The standard generation enthalpy comprises a metal element that is larger on the negative side than the standard generation enthalpy when the alkali metal or the alkaline earth metal forms an oxide.
