abstract Provided is a sample holder that can fix a sample simply and firmly in SPM observation in liquid and can be used regardless of the type of observation liquid. A main body having a sample fixing portion is provided on an upper surface, and an observation liquid is placed on the sample fixed to the sample fixing portion by an adhesive, and the sample is observed in the observation liquid by a scanning probe microscope. In the sample holder 10 for performing observation, an annular groove is formed on the upper surface of the main body 11 so as to surround the sample fixing portion 12, and the upper opening is closed by the sample fixed to the sample fixing portion 12. An adhesive receiving groove 13 for receiving the adhesive flowing out from the sample fixing portion 12, and an annular groove formed on the upper surface of the main body 11 so as to surround the periphery of the adhesive receiving groove 13, from above the sample An observation liquid receiving groove 14 is provided for receiving the flowed-out observation liquid.
