The present disclosure relates to a host cell comprising a recombinant polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide, wherein the polypeptide transports cellodextrin to the cell. The present disclosure relates to a method for promoting cell growth in a medium containing cellodextrin, a method for co-fermenting a sugar obtained from cellulose and a sugar obtained from hemicellulose, and a recombinant polypeptide encoding a polypeptide. It further relates to a method for producing a hydrocarbon or a derivative of a hydrocarbon by providing a host cell comprising a nucleotide, wherein the polypeptide transports cellodextrin to the cell.
