abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a glass rod stretching method capable of shortening the length of an upper support rod attached to the upper end of a glass rod and blocking the inside of a heating furnace from outside air. When the upper end surface 30a of the glass rod 30 is outside the heating furnace 13, the first sealing body 16 is disposed on the upper end surface 13 a of the heating furnace 13, the upper opening 17 of the heating furnace 13 is covered with the first sealing body 16, and when the upper end surface 30 a of the glass rod 30 is in the heating furnace 13, the second The sealing body 18 is overlaid on the first sealing body 16, the upper opening 17 of the heating furnace 13 is covered with the second sealing body 18, and the inside of the heating furnace 13 is shut off from the outside air.
