abstract |
A novel delta-9 desaturase enzyme for reducing saturated fatty acids and increasing unsaturated fatty acids in oily seeds, and nucleic acids comprising at least one nucleotide sequence encoding said desaturase. A single encoding delta-9 desaturase enzyme comprising an amino acid sequence that is at least 80% identical to the amino acid sequence of a typical natural delta-9 desaturase (HzD9DS) from Helicoverpa zea represented by a particular amino acid sequence. A released nucleic acid molecule. An isolated delta-9 desaturase enzyme comprising an amino acid sequence at least 80% identical to the sequence of said HzD9DS. A method of reducing the level of 16: 0-ACP in a plant cell by transforming the plant cell with the nucleic acid molecule and expressing a plant cell organelle desaturase. [Selection figure] None |
