Provided herein are polymeric ionic salt catalysts useful in non-enzymatic saccharification treatments. The catalyst described herein hydrolyzes the cellulosic material to produce monosaccharides and / or disaccharides. Saccharification of lignocellulose, such as biomass waste products in agriculture, forestry and waste treatment, is very economical and suitable for the environment. As part of biomass energy utilization, attempts have been made to obtain ethanol (bioethanol) by hydrolysis of cellulose or hemicellulose, which are the main components of plants. |
