An alkaline detergent is described that includes using a copolymer in combination with an alkali metal hydroxide. The detergent maintains its cleaning function at an application temperature of, for example, 145 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit (about 62.8 ° C. to about 82.2 ° C.) and pH 9.5 to about 13 and prevents hard water scaling.
