abstract |
MIMO is introduced in WiMAX and 3GPP. While further evolution of MIMO advancement is underway toward 3GPP releases 9 and 10, only the downlink (DL) MIMO is specified in the WCDMA standard of 3GPP. A method and apparatus for uplink transmission using multiple antennas is disclosed. The radio transceiver unit performs STTD encoding on an input stream of a physical channel configured for space-time transmit diversity (STTD). Each physical channel can be mapped to an in-phase (I) branch or a quadrature (Q) branch. The WTRU may perform STTD encoding in the binary domain or the complex domain. Further, the WTRU may perform precoding with precoding weights for at least one physical channel including E-DPDCH and transmission of the precoded output stream via multiple antennas.
