A system includes a wound dressing that directs or directs excess moisture away from a patient while remaining somewhat moist near the wound to prevent drying of the wound. An absorption system for a wound care product is provided that includes a lower layer on a wound contact side that absorbs liquid, and a higher liquid-absorbing upper layer that is in fluid communication with the lower layer. . Liquid communication can be provided by a plurality of pores extending between the two layers. The dressing can include antibacterial agents, healing promoters, and other functional agents.
