PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition and a method involved in tumor suppression and inhibition of cell infection by a pathogen. SOLUTION: It is effective to introduce mRNA encoding a polypeptide involved in suppression of cell proliferation into epithelial cells and to reduce the possibility of the cells proliferating in a scaffold-independent environment. A method comprising expressing the polypeptide in an amount, and introducing mRNA encoding a polypeptide involved in spontaneous immunity into the cell, and reducing the likelihood that the cell will be infected by a pathogen. A method comprising expressing the polypeptide in an amount effective to the present. In various embodiments, the polypeptide may comprise cathelicidin antibacterial protein (CAMP), calprotectin, S100A8, S100A9, β-defensin, S100A7, secretory leukocyte inhibitor, lipocalin 2, or lysozyme.
