Liquid crystal medium with homeotropic orientation |
abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal medium (LC medium) having negative or positive dielectric anisotropy. This problem is solved by providing a liquid crystal medium having a negative or positive dielectric anisotropy and containing a low molecular weight component and a polymerizable component. Polymerizable components include self-oriented polymerizable mesogenes (polymerizable self-orientation additives) that achieve homeotropic (vertical) orientation of the LC medium on the surface or cell wall of a liquid crystal display (LC display). Therefore, the present invention also includes an LC display having a homeotropic orientation of the LC medium without an alignment layer. The present invention discloses a novel structure for a self-oriented additive having a functional group at a specific position. [Selection diagram] None |
