abstract | A method of recovering sulfur from hydrogen sulfide in an acidic gas stream, which includes a step of reacting hydrogen sulfide and oxygen in a combustion furnace, and a step of transferring heat from the furnace effluent to generate a boiler effluent. The step of lowering the temperature of the boiler effluent in the sulfur condenser, the step of separating water vapor from the non-condensable gas stream, and the reaction of sulfur dioxide and hydrogen gas in the first hydrogenation reactor to produce hydrogen sulfide. The step of producing, the step of reacting hydrogen sulfide and oxygen in the reactor to generate the reactor effluent, the step of transferring heat from the reactor effluent to produce the cooled effluent, and sulfur. A step of lowering the temperature of the effluent cooled in the cooler to generate a gas stream, a step of separating water vapor from the gas stream, and a reaction of sulfur dioxide and hydrogen gas in the second hydrogen sulfide reactor. A method comprising the steps of generating hydrogen sulfide and producing a treated tail gas stream. |
