titleOfInvention | Conversion of methane to higher hydrocarbon |
abstract | PURPOSE: To directly convert methane or natural gas to higher hydrocarbons and above all ethylene and ethane by using carbonates of rare-earth metals, such as lanthanum and neodymium, as a catalyst and bringing the methane and oxygen-contg. gas into contact with the catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: The methane and the oxygen-contg. gas are passed and are brought into contact (preferably under conditions of 550 to 750°C and 1 to 20 bar) in the presence of the catalyst contg. at least one among the carbonates (more particularly adequately La 2 O 2 (CO 3 etc.), of the rare-earth metals, such as lanthanum, preaseodymium, neodymium, samarium, europium, gadlinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium and ruthenium, by which the methane is converted to the higher hydrocarbons. The catalyst is preferably used by further adding an alkaline earth metal compd. thereto. Steam is recommended to be made present at 0.1 to 25% therein or made CO 2 present at 0.1 to 20 mol% therein. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO |
