PURPOSE: To inexpensively obtain ≥2C hydrocarbons essentially containing ethane and ethylene in good yield, by reacting methane with molecular oxygen at high temperature using a complex oxide of an alkaline earth metal oxide and rare earth oxide as a catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: Methane is reacted with molecular oxygen at 600W850°C (preferably 650W800°C) using a complex oxide of alkaline earth metal oxide (e.g., MgO, CaO, SrO or BaO) and rare earth oxide (e.g., Y 2 O 3 , La 2 O 3 or Nd 2 O 3 ) as a catalyst to provide ≥2C hydrocarbons essentially containing ethane and ethylene. In the catalyst composition, the content of rare oxide is 1W80mol% (preferably 20W50mol%). Activity and selectivity at low temperature are improved and simultaneously catalytic activity is maintained over long period by complex formation of the catalyst. The catalyst is obtained by burning constitutional two components. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio |
