abstract PURPOSE: To easily manufacture the title material without pressurizing the molten metal of Al, Mg or the like by immersing a molded body constituted of a reinforcing material of the short fiber, whisker and grains by specific materials and the fine pieces of specific metal into the above molten metal. n CONSTITUTION: A reinforcing material 12 constituted of the mixture of Al 2 O 3 short fiber, SiC or Si 3 N 4 whisker and the grains of Si 3 N 4 , WC or the like and the metallic fine pieces 14 of Ni, Fe, Co, Cr, Mn, Cu, Ag, Si, Mg, Al, Zn, Sn, Ti, etc., are mixed in the weight ratio of 15:85 to prepare a molded body 10, which is immersed into the molten metal 18 of Al or Al alloy in a heat-resistant vessel 16. The molten metal 18 has excellent wettability with the molded body 10, permeates into the molded body 10 by a capillary phenomenon and is solidified in the molded body, so that a fiber reinforcing composite material contg. Al metal as the matrix can easily be manufactured without pressurizing the Al metal in the molten metal. At the time of using Mg or its alloy for the matrix metal, Ni, Cr, Ag, Al, Zn, Sn, Pb, etc., are used as the material of the metallic fine pieces for the formation of the molded body. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO&Japio
