abstract PURPOSE: To simplify the reextraction of an extracted rare earth element and to improve the recovery of the rare earth element by using a halogenated diluent at the time of allowing an aq. solution containing the rare earth element to contact with an organic phase containing an organic phosphonic acid or the like. n CONSTITUTION: An initial aq. solution containing one or more kinds of the rare earth elements is brought into contact with an initial organic phase containing an extracting agent selected from a group of the organic phosphonic acid or an organic phosphinic acid and one or more kinds of the diluents to separate into a water based phase and the organic phase. In a method including the reextraction of one or more kinds of the rare earth element from the organic phase by allowing the organic phase to contact with an acidic aq. solution, one or more kinds of the halogenated diluents or diluents selected from a group of carboxylic acids are used to improve the reextraction. As the diluent, a chlorinated hydrocarbon or the 6-15C linear or branched carboxylic acid is mentioned. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO
