abstract | PURPOSE: To produce an inside surface-oxidized pipe having an oxide layer, which is free from crazing and does not exhibit peeling, by oxidizing the inside surface of a pipe consisting of copper, thereby forming the oxide layer of a specific thickness. n CONSTITUTION: At the time of oxidizing the inside surface of a pipe consisting of copper or copper alloy in order to use the pipe in a sanitary field, etc., the inside surface of the pipe is continuously subjected to an annealing treatment by passing a gaseous mixture through the inside surface of the pipe at about 600 to 730°C and at a passing speed of 5 to 220m/min, to form the oxide layer having 0.01 to 0.2μ thickness on the inside surface. At this time, the compsn. of the gaseous mixture is composed of 1 to 25vol.%, more preferably 5 to 15vol.% oxygen and 75 to 99vol.%, more preferably 85 to 95vol.% inert gas (Ar, etc.). The inside surface consists of the uniform copper oxide layer having the max. grain size of 0.03 to <0.1μ. The layer is so formed as to have the (1, 1, 1) structure of the oriented copper oxide crystals.
