abstract PURPOSE: To enhance the utilization factor of a negative electrode in particularly high rate discharging by adding a specified amount of yttrium and magnesium to a negative electrode active substance chiefly containing cadmium. n CONSTITUTION: Yttrium and magnesium are added to a Cd containing powder containing Cd compound solely or together with metal cadmium as main component of negative electrode active substance. The yttrium content in the form of yttrium or its compound is in the amount 0.01-10 parts by weight to 100 parts by weight Cd content, while the magnesium content is in the form of magnesium or its compound in an amount ranging the same as the yttrium content. A negative electrode formed from the active substance having the constituents in these shares has a high utilization factor particularly at the time of high rate discharging among discharge utilization factors. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO&Japio
