titleOfInvention Manufacture of pipe made of pure silica having uniform inner diameter
abstract PURPOSE: To uniformize the inner diameter of a pipe made of pure silica by executing cobushing for which a pipe made of pure silica is externally fitted to a carbon rod and the inner face of the pipe is tightly adhered with circumferential face of the carbon rod. n CONSTITUTION: The outer circumferential face of pipe stock 2' is heated by a burner while an inert gas such as N 2 is made to pass through between a carbon rod 6 and the conduit 2', and when the temp. of the pipe stock 2' approaches its melting one, the supply of the inert gas is stopped. Simultaneously, the inert gas is conversely sucket to apply a negative pressure to the inside of the conduit 2', and cobushing is executed in such a manner that, by using the burner pressure, the inner face of the pipe stock 2' is tightly adhered with the circumferential face of the carbon rod 6 successively from the side of the tip part. In the meantime, the carbon rod 6 is heated by using a subburner, and by utilizing its thermal expansion, the contact with the inner face of the pipe stock 2' is enhanced to increase its binding force on the pipe stock 2'. When the cobushing is finished and the carbon rod 6 is cooled, the coefficient of thermal expansion of the carbon rod 6 is larger than that of a skin pipe 3 since the carbon rod 6 has a higher thermal expansion coefficient compared to that of the skin pipe 3, and then the skin pipe 3 is pulled out. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
