abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a light weight structural material for a movable member easy to obtain stiffness and working accuracy and having less effects of a thermal deformation as well, by providing 1st and 2nd base plates consisting of steel thin plates and opposed each other at a small interval and a medium plates linked by welding on the both base plates therebetween. n CONSTITUTION: X and Y axial slides 16, 38 are taken as of light structural materials and the structure is the same. The slide 16 is made with the upper plates 66, 68, 70 of a 1st base plate, the lower plate 72 of a 2nd base plate, a U shaped side plate 74, a rectangular side plate 76 and L shaped side plate 77 being fitted to the connection grid 64 where a U shaped 1st medium plate 60 and rectangular large and small 2nd medium plates 62, 63 of two kinds are mutually engaged. These plates 60, 62, 66, 68, 70, 72, 74, 76, 77 are composed of steel-made thin plates. The slides 16, 38 have a high rigidity in spite of a light weight because of steel-made thin plates being assembled and the machining is easy compared to those made of aluminum, so a high accuracy can be obtained.
