abstract PURPOSE: To obtain modified manganese dioxide for a catalyst having high activity and a long service life by bringing a permanganate and a divalent manganese compd. as starting materials into a reaction in an acidic aq. soln. at 60-150°C. n CONSTITUTION: A permanganate such as lithium permanganate or sodium permanganate and a divalent manganese compd. are brought into a reaction in an acidic aq. soln. at 60-150°C to obtain desired modified manganese dioxide. The proper molar ratio of the permanganate to the divalent manganese compd. is 1-5, both the compds. are preferably used in the form of aq. solns. and the concn. of each of the solns. is made higher within the range in which no trouble is caused. In the case where an aq. potassium permanganate soln. is used as the permanganate, the pref. concn. is 0.5-3mol/l. In the case where an aq. manganese sulfate soln. is used as the divalent manganese compd., the pref. concn. is 2-4mol/l. Sulfuric acid is suitable for use as the acid of the acidic aq. soln. and is used in 0.1-2.0 molar ratio to the permanganate. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio
