abstract PURPOSE:To convert NOx into nitrogen by using a catalytic body for purification of exhaust gas formed by supporting a specified multiple oxide and an inorg. binder on the surface of a honeycomb molded body of a heat resistant inorg. material. CONSTITUTION:A multiple oxide represented by a general formula ABO2 (where A is Cu and B is one or more among Mn, Fe and Co) and an inorg. binder are supported on the surface of a honeycomb molded body of a heat resistant inorg. material such as cordierite or the multiple oxide, one or more among Pt, Pd and Rh and the inorg. binder are supported on the surface of the molded body to obtain a catalytic body for purification of exhaust gas. When this catalytic body is used, NOx reacts with CO or various hydrocarbons and this reaction is further activated by a very small amt. of one or more among Pt, Pd and Rh. Mullite or alumina may be used as the heat resistant inorg. material so as to produce the same effect.
