abstract (57) [Summary] [Purpose] A hydrogen storage alloy was used as a negative electrode active material, and a mixture of the powder of this hydrogen storage alloy and a metal powder of nickel, copper, etc. as a conduction aid was pressure bonded to a current collector. The sheet-shaped negative electrode 2 is spirally wound with the sheet-shaped positive electrode 1 and the separator 3 interposed therebetween to form a spiral electrode body 20, and the spiral electrode body 20 is housed in the battery case 4. In an alkaline secondary battery, it is possible to prevent the active material from peeling off from the negative electrode 2 and the occurrence of cracks in the negative electrode 2 when the spiral electrode body is manufactured. [Structure] The surface of the negative electrode 2 is coated with a polymer such as a fluororesin.
