titleOfInvention Fiber type dispersion compensator
abstract (57) [Summary] [Object] To provide a fiber-type dispersion compensator that can perform both wavelength dispersion compensation and loss compensation of a propagation optical fiber, has a simple device configuration, and is inexpensive. A fiber type dispersion compensator 20 is provided in an optical communication system in which light from a transmitter 3 is propagated to a zero dispersion optical fiber 13 and received by a receiver 18. The dispersion compensator 20 reciprocates the light from the optical fiber 10 between the circulator 6 and the reflection plate 14 via the circulator 6 to make the optical fiber 11 A reciprocating optical path 21 is provided to guide the reciprocating optical path 21, and a dispersion compensating optical fiber (DCF) 8 and an erbium-doped fiber (EDF) 5 are provided in series in the reciprocating optical path 21. Light from the optical fiber 10 is passed through the circulator 6 to EDF5 → DCF8 → D By making a round trip propagation in the order of CF8 → EDF5, D Dispersion compensation by CF and optical amplification by EDF 5 are efficiently performed.
