abstract | Kind Code: A1 A low temperature rectification method for obtaining a product stream mainly containing low volatility components from a gas mixture containing high volatility components, low volatility components and heavy impurities. A gas mixture is separated by a cryogenic rectification process in which an ascending vapor stream and a descending liquid stream are contacted in a column. The mixture to be separated is, after compression, combined with the recycle stream. This combined stream is purified in a pre-purification unit that removes heavy impurities. The combined flow is divided into a majority flow and a less than half flow. The majority stream is then cooled and separated into a liquid phase and a vapor phase. Heavy impurities are concentrated in the liquid phase taken as a recycle stream and then pumped to a high pressure sufficient to vaporize the impurities. The vapor thus obtained is decompressed and merges with the incoming gas mixture. The concentration of heavy impurities in the vapor phase is sufficiently reduced to such an extent that the concentration of heavy impurities in the product stream concentrated in the low volatility component is reduced. |
