abstract (57) Abstract: It is possible to effectively prevent thermal deterioration of catalytically active species without impairing the HC component adsorption function of the HC adsorbent layer. SOLUTION: This is an exhaust gas purifying catalyst installed in an exhaust system of an engine, and an HC adsorbent layer 3 is supported on a catalyst carrier composed of a monolith type carrier 1, and this HC adsorbent layer 3 is supported. A catalyst for purifying exhaust gas of an engine, in which cerium oxide 4 and neodymium oxide 5 are supported in the same layer, and catalytically active species 6 made of a noble metal or an oxide thereof is supported thereon, and a method for producing the same.
