(57) [Summary] A method of implementing a recoil missile propulsion system and a propulsion system for implementing the method are disclosed. The propulsion system is performed by reacting a silicon hydride compound with nitrogen and / or a nitrogen compound at elevated temperature in the presence of an oxidizer for hydrogen of the silicon hydride compound. Nitrogen and oxidant can preferably be taken from the earth's atmosphere, which eliminates the need to equip the missile with an oxidant for silicon hydride compounds.
