PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a liquid crystalline polyester which does not generate blister even when a molded article is left in a high-temperature air or liquid for a long time. SOLUTION: The production of a liquid crystalline polyester comprising a wholly aromatic ring skeleton and exhibiting anisotropy at the time of melt residence by a method of acylating an aromatic compound having a phenolic hydroxyl group with a fatty acid anhydride and transesterifying it with an aromatic carboxylic acid. A prepolymer polymerization step of a liquid crystalline polyester, wherein the fatty acid anhydride is used in an amount of 1.06 to 1.08 times the hydroxyl equivalent of the aromatic compound having a phenolic hydroxyl group, and the degree of polymerization of the prepolymer obtained from the step. And a solid-phase polymerization step for increasing the temperature. |
