PURPOSE: To obtain a porous membrane suitable for ultrafiltration, by forming a film of a copolymer prepared from grafting of acrylonitride onto a reduced keratin- containing material, and by eluting the unreacted component of the reduced keratin. n CONSTITUTION: A material, e.g. wool, containing keratin is reduced with thioglycollic acid, etc., to cleave the disulfide linrages, of the keratin and to form thiol groups. Acrylonitrile (or a monomer copolymerizable with it) is grafted onto the material, and the graft polymer is cast into a membrane, which is treated with an aqueous solution of urea to elute the unreacted reduced heratin and to form pores in the membrane. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio |
