abstract PURPOSE: To kill tough weeds in a field of true grasses or leguminous plants, of arbitrary growing stage without damaging the crop, by applying a herbicide containing a relatively small amount of specific phenoxypropionic acid derivative. n CONSTITUTION: α-[2-Cyano-5-(2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenoxy)phenoxy]pro- pionic acid benzyl ester is applied to the fields of true grasses such as corn, wheat, barley, rice plant, etc., or of leguminous plants such as adzuki bean, soy bean, peanut, etc., at a rate of 0.05-40 g, pref. 0.1-20 g, more pref. 0.1-10 g per 1 are. It is pref. applied to the leaf and stalk of plants. Preferable application stage is from sprouting to the 1-6 leafed stage in case of the true grasses, and from the seed-leaf- spreading stage to the 2-leafed stage in case of the leguminous plants. Tough weeds such as velvetleaf, white-bird's-eye, cleavers, etc., can be effectively killed. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
